RE: P0442
When you open the hood and look down on the Cooing fan you will see a Valve with 2 hoses.
One goes to the Intake and the other goes back to the Evap canister then to the tank.
Make sure the hose is good all the way back.
They are known to break at the intake and in the Rear by the fuel filter.

Hi Tech, I just bought a 2000 S70 GL T SE and was having a similar issue with my evap valve. I'm curious if you think the evap valve error could be cause by a blockage in the electric fan. While checking my evap valve, I found that a nest had been built and left behind in the electric fan by a mouse or something. I couldn't tell if the evap valve vented through this area but thought I ask. Also, if the evap valve is stuck is there anything one can do to get it unstuck (e.g. lubrication, cleaning in solution, manually working the valve etc). Thanks- Mike

Hi Tech. Thanks for the advice. I'll definately give the carb. cleaner and check the hoses. I think I found a picture of the evap valve. The retailer I found selling it calls it a purge valve. If I wanted to install a new one do you have any helpful hints or recommendations. I was just planning on unpluging the two hoses and the connection and then plugging in the new purge valve. Should one do anything else?

Hi Tech,
I’m struggling with a Large Leak error in the evap valve on my 2000 S70 GLT SE. As this evap issue coincides with my trying to register my vehicle, I’ve got a limited amount of time before my rejection sticker expires so any help is extremely appreciated.
Per the forum, I checked the evap hoses and didn’t find any cracks or cuts in the lines. I then removed and lubricated the evap valve with carb cleaner and got the error code reset. About 180 miles later I got the same error as before. I also replaced the gas gap at the same time to ensure that it error wasn’t a result of a bad seal with from the gas cap.
I had the error code reset again and I installed a new evap valve and again got the same error.
I think my next step should be to replace the hoses completely (probably should have done this when I changed the valve).
Other than this, I am fresh out of ideas. Do you have any suggestions for what else can I or should I do before I resign myself to taking the car in to the garage?
Any help greatly appreciated.

When getting your left hand driver side axle replaced, are thereany vacuum hoses that may get in the way of the replacing of the axle that might need to get unplugged or accidently cut open? Just had my axle replaced and CEL came on later that day. Got a code of p0455 evap emissions leak (larkge). Checked to make sure gas cap is on good and cleared the code. Butfew days later the code came back.
