power antenna mast

I had a customer with a broken mast on a S70 and after parts and labor was added up we decided on an aftermarket. $19.00 and about 30 minutes of work. I fumbled with the old one for an hour trying to get it to work, but never figured it out. Sorry, I can't help, but thought I would chime in.

the instructions say to pull out on the mast and it will come out... but it won't budge. my car has a diversity antenna somewhere which is activated now because of this being out and the signals seems to be better without this antenna. but now i have a hole there and i have to fill it with something (that's what she said!) so its gotta go back in regardless. if anyone else could help here that would be great though

i finally got the new one on, but it comes out when its all the way up! and the teeth keep getting jammed inside the motor. i think theres a plastic part missing inside, so i might need a motor. i'm gonna leave it disconnected for now since its loud anyway, and maybe someday i'll come by a motor cheap. at least i have a taller (and better looking) antenna now! and i painted the antenna base to match my car (it was gray and fading)
UPDATE
there was a part that fell off the antenna mast before i put it on. re-installed everything and it works great now... still loud though

Antenna mast
I replaced mine with one I picked up on ebay. It was an easy fix. The motor has to be working for the replacement to solve your problems. I ran into the same problem of trying to get the thing out, what I did was take the unit off, opened it up, but left the power leads connected. I turned the radio off and as the motor pulls the mast down I ran to the back and manually pulled it out. Had to reverse the process to get it in. Hope this helps.

Power Antenna Switch...
I would like to switch my power antenna. I think they last longer if they are not going up and down every time you put the key near the car.
My 960 has a switch that I can use to keep it down when I'm using my MP3 or playing a cd. So, I picked up a switch while at our somewhat local Volvo grave yard. Does anyone know what color the wire is that comes from the radio? I plan to put the switch in the power line, that should keep the antenna down. I also need to put it down to go through our NEW car wash.

this site has some instructions and pictures. good luck with installing that! i was considering it but i don't have time for that kind of stuff really. if i tried i am sure i would break something else and cost myself $300 or something insane like that.

it isn't as bad as i made it. you have to yank really hard when its all the way up to get the metal sleeve out. if the plastic chain is broken, you have to open the motor to get the broken pieces out
