Reasonably priced tires for an S70 non-Turbo
Looking to replace my tires - used to get the Michelin MXV4s but they are getting kind of pricey now - Costco has them for about $167 a tire including, mounting, warranty, disposal fee, etc. I guess I am looking for something that is a bit cheaper say around $100 a tire and wondering what others have used that they liked. I think I will be fine with an S speed rated tire. I don't care for Bridgestone or Firestone but am open to other suggestions.
I'm running Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum on my 96 volvo 960 and I will be running the same tires on my 98 volvo s70 when needed in the future. They used to be around 66 dollars per tire for 195/65/15 but now it's around 75 dollars per tire at treadepot.com I bought a set of four when they were 66 dollars per tire at tirerack.com I'm not sure what tire size is appropriate for my 98 s70 or your s70, but it seems like 195/60/15 is the right size. Now they are at $60 per tire at treadepot and $67 per tire at tirerack. You can get a $50 card by mail if you buy a set of four tires at tirerack for this particular tire as of now.

I just got Sumitomo HTR-H4's for my car a few weeks ago, they are H-rated and have a 60k mi warranty. High performance tire w/ great all-season traction including snow and even some ice. I ended up getting 205-60-15's so they would be a little wider than stock. They are buy 3 - get 1 free @ Sears right now and so it basically ends up being $67 a tire for 4 of em. I did a lot of research b/c I wanted the best tire possible for the money, and I'm glad I did b/c these are excellent tires.

Went with the Kumhos - very satisfied so far, especially with the price and the $50 rebate. Seems to have a bit less steering resistance, can't say I notice a difference in noise levels. Was running Michelin MXV4s before. The Kumhos are reputed to have slightly lower handling characteristics but seem to be a much better deal for the money. I only have maybe 100-200 miles on them now and no issues. I always had some slight vibration problems with this car only at a certain speed maybe around 70mph -- higher or lower and the vibration would go away. I am not noticing this now, but I have to pay more attention to be sure. I never thought it could be related to the tire. I have had several sets of the Michelins and always had them properly balanced, etc and always had this weird vibration issue.
Anyway thanks for the advice on the tires.

Just bought four of these from Tire Rack for $87 apiece for my 99 S70 T5. Great tires! IMHO the best bang for the buck out there (and there's currently a $50 Visa cash card offer with purchase of four general tires). I will never buy Michelin's again. Way overpriced rubber! I put Yokohama AVID W4S on my son's S70 and he loves them. They are $98 at Tire Rack...
