Reset the error code
Can you reset the fault code by simply disconnecting the battery for a few hours or do you have to manually reset it with the read meter?
I can get my check engine light off with a battery disconnect but eventually it comes back on and yet the problem "seems" to be fixed.
thanks

to start, what is the code being thrown? WHen you remove the battery it should be resetting the codes, but as the car rechecks itself the code of watever is broken will be thrown again. For example, my car drives fine but my air pump which is broken throws the air pump code. Although when i remove the battery to clear everything it does eventually re throw the code. The way I see it, you need to repair whatever is broken if you dont want the check light on all the time.
I had written it down some time ago but misplaced it -- something like P1007 0117 if I remember.
It actually referred to the altitude sensor but I replaced the MAF sensor and the car ran right again.
Since then I've been resetting the light with battery disconnect but it keeps coming on again.
Can't be the wiring or the MAF.
My next "for the hell of it" thing to do is replace the altitude sensor.
(Originally someone told me it was probably the MAF, not the altitude like the code said).
Anyway, car runs GREAT with check engine light on or off, no diff in gas mileage like I was having with the bad MAF sensor.
