Default Rookie Motor swap...

Alright Guys. Just purchased my new motor for the 98 S70 GLT $850 shipped to my door 115,000 miles. Going to replace all timming belt components (since this is why my last motor blew up) plus water pump.

Have done lots of motor work on older chevy pickups, and such. Is there any lessons learned, things to watch for, or any other helpful tips.

I greatly appreciate all comments, and input

FYI. have a S70 GLT motor for sale with some bent valves, and some scored pistions

Your S70 is pretty much the same as the 850. Check it when you get it, it may already have those new items installed. If not, do install new parts.

Here's a few other things to consider:

- Sump o-rings
- Turbo oil-drain o-rings
- Cam seals
- Front and rear main seals
- PCV system

Those are all maintenance items that are so much easier to do with the engine out of the car. Cost is relatively low as well - perhaps $150 for all.

Before you put the new motor back in the car you might want to replace all of the motor mounts. You can buy them from fcpgroton right now on sale (15% discount). Check eBay also for this same seller and you should find that there is a set of three motor mounts (lower right, lower front, and lower back) are on sale for $77 with free shipping. Buy the upper torque rod mounts that brace the engine to the firewall and the lower torque rod mount from the fcpgroton web site. That should be about $115 minus 15% which will get you the free shipping. Check the subframe mounts while you are at it since it will be simple to replace them while the engine / transmission are out of the car.
