Default Rough idle after engine warms up

I have a 1999 volvo v70 GLT turbo

The problem I an experiencing is a very rough idle. It bounces the rev counter needle 3-4 notches every 2-3 secs. This only starts when the car warms up.

I took the car to my mechanic who ran a diagnostics and could not get a problem code. He said to wait until the engine light came on and that it would do no damage to the engine. It has been 5 months and it is getting worst.

Has anyone experienced this problem or have a solution.

All ides would be much appreciated

Thanks

My guess would be a vacuum leak somewhere. Check around the idle valve first. It could also be a bad idle valve.

thanks guys for the reply.

Both of you point out the idle valve. I am guessing in both your cases there was no alert to the problem fron the onboard computer.

The question is now - where is the idle valve? I don't have a shop manual to look it up. Is this something I could switch out myself?

Again thanks for thee info
