Default S70 1999 warped head from cold water added to hot car

Hello Group! Can adding cold water (a gallon) to a hot dry engine (water pump quit) cause the head, gasket, block to warp? Please read on.

The coolant light went on and I pulled over to a 76 Station mechanic who poured cold water into the coolant tank. I heard pop pop crack crack on and on.

When he started the car and water shot all over the place and the car ran ROUGH! As he was pouring the water in, I questioned him about adding cold water to a hot car, "Can't that crack the block?) (my dad did it to a boat engine).

Well, we changed the water pump but the car still runs rough. The radiator was changed, new tubes. The check engine light is on, the water pump light intermittantly goes on.

Plug it in and see what codes you get.
Make a note of codes then clear them.
Start over again and if Mil lights up see what codes it gives you then.

I guess you might have p0300+ codes possibly, missfire.
If the head is cooked you could get them codes.

Book 1, page 1, thermostat, was this looked at before the rad was changed? or it was filled with cold water?

You would normally start with the cheapest part first!

We had a 2004 Mercedes E class diesel in 6 months ago, wouldn't change gear(auto).box was in limp mode
chap didn't want to spend money on a plug in.after convincing him this is the only way, he parted with the cash.

It had so many codes over all the ECM's the only thing to do was to clear them all. and start again.

after that, we drove it for half hour.
Didn't miss a beat and is still changing gear.

Called me last week to book an oil change, still changes gear and runs faultlessly.

Best £40 he ever spent
