s70 cranks but will not start
First of all, Hello to everyone here at VolvoForums
I own a 1999 Volvo s70 and I have only had one problem with my Volvo thus far; I have been the owner for over 3 years now. It had a blown head gasket when it first arrived (bought off of ebay; dealer paid to fix it). However, it will no longer start.
It was in perfect working order (to my knowledge) until a few nights ago. My brother had moved my car less than 50 yards to park it on the street; 2 hours later it would not start when I was on my way to school.
here are the symptoms/observations I have made on my own.
-it will crank but not start (car in park, foot on the brake)
-jumped the car to make sure there was adequate power and yielded no results
-battery connections are tight, but corroded (though not directly on the contacts)
-I believe I can hear the fuel pump engage
-checked all the fuses and see no issues there
-gas can be smelled from the drivers seat but I see no leaks
-I have not tested for spark or compression (lack tools/knowledge as of now)
-I did not notice, until I watched my video, that my headlights turned off when I tried to start the car. Are they supposed to in order for the battery to have sufficient power for the starter? or does it switch off to the alternator when the car starts? or is this a sign that it is indeed a battery issue? I was watching the interior lights to see if they dimmed, but they did not.
I have uploaded a video: here
I would really rather not have to take my car into the shop as I am now currently a college student in need of a job. Also, it being the week of Thanksgiving, I doubt I would not get results from a shop until next week, besides money issues. My hope is that you may be able to point me in the right direction to get started diagnosing/fixing my vehicle. I love my Volvo and I am very dependent upon it, I will do anything to get it working again.
Thanks for your patience and/or help.
Ryan
edit: oops, I did not realize I posted this in the V70 section. If that is a problem could a moderator please move it.
thanks

Turns out that the battery, after being jumped, still lacked adequate power to start the flooded vehicle. However, it is working now and I no longer have to worry about transportation issues!
again, Thanks for your patience and help.

I am a Volvo mechanic and currently have three 1999 S70's at my shop. All of them have this intermittent problem. They will crank for a long time but not start.I've tried everythingI can think of to fix the problem, but nothing has worked.Does anyone else have this problem and have a solution? Is this a chronic S70 problem?
Thanks,
Roger
Thanks,
Roger
When it won't start leave the key on and connect Vida and see if there is a Immoblizer code. But if the car starts the code will clear itself.
Also what have you checked/replaced.
