97 850R cranks, but will not start
hey guys,
the car (wagon actually) has 127,000 miles on it. was running fine, then last week just didnt want to start.
while cranking it didnt appear to be sparking (no exhaust smoke, or attempted "catches"). tried the quickstart spray to see if it was sparking and perhapes a fuel problem, no change.
under the hood I noticed that the Idle Air/Speed Control Valve was humming, even with the key out. is that normal? could the Idle Air/Speed Control Valve prevent a start?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Oscar

1. Check the alternator.
2. Check all lines to see if they are cracked, busted, etc... And reconnect them if they are disconnected.
3. Check the battery for how much power it is producing.
4. Check spark plugs, make sure none of them are wet.
5. Fualty wiring, causing a short somewhere.
6. Starter

You might also want to check the cam sensor. It is located on the back of the cams. Looking from the left side of the car under the hood it is to the right of the Dist cap. Follow the wire from it and check the white plug. They are known to fall apart.

ahh cool, cause that bad boy is like $200. im going to check the cam sensor, add some fresh gas with an anti ice additive, check fuel pressure, do a basic tune up, wires+plugs. and hopefully ill be on the road again by next week.
thanks again Tech, and others. ill keep you posted.
