Try starting it with the air mass meter disconnected.

Put a full tank of gas in and then try and start it.

Go to www.stepbystepvolvo.com for free guide to diagnosing 740/940 no-starts. This guide is for B230 LH-Jetronic engines. It may help your situation.

OK. It started with the air mass meter disconnected.I thenconnected it andit started this time also.?????I did nottry driving it or running it very long. So does this tell me that the connection was bad, or do I need to get a new mass air meter?

Well it started seven times in a row. I was able to run many stops and get some things done today. Tonight I was going to go and visit a freind and it would not start. I disconnected the mass air meter and it still would not start. Iam begining to think that it is just starting every now and then. Mas air meter connected or not. Fuel pump relay maybe? I had it repalced about 7 years ago for doing pretty much what it is doing now as I am remembering.

Fuel pump relay is a likely suspect. Also the 25-amp fuse holder clipped to the inside left fender. Clean up that 25-amp fuse and try it. If no workie, I would open up the fuel pump relay and inspect the solder joints.

The 25 Amp fuse looked good. I purchased a fuel pump relay off of ebay $12.00 shipping included. It came Sat. So I installed it and I fired it up. Runs fine, starts fine. All good for now.

Glad to hear it's fixed. And thanks for posting the fix, that's how we learn.
