Default S70 Rear Deck Speakers

I'm replacing my blown factory rear deck speakers (98 Volvo S70). I cant' determine how to remove
the old speakers. I was unable to pop out the plastic speaker covers near the back window.
I believe the speakers are replaced from inside (back seat) vs. trunk?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try going into the trunk and seeing if there are any screws holding it from the bottom of the deck.

Thanks for the reply. No luck, it looks like there's a metal piece riveted underneath
in the trunk...

The entire Carpeted panel comes out from inside to access the speakers.

I've also got a 99 S70 GLT and was trying to replace the rear speakers. What size did you replace them with? Did you have any luck getting the rear carpeted panel out to access them? How difficult was the replacement and how are they working for you? Any help you can give would be great! Thanks

I believe they are 8" speakers. And seriously I wouldn't get them from Volvo. When I had my 1995 850 NA, I had a blown rear speaker and they were 6x9's and to replace just one speaker was $150

I said hell no and went to aftermarket speakers.

thats a really odd shape for speakers 8" where u gonna find mid range speakers that are 8" and not sub woofers? i have yet to see 8" speakers that are nut subs.

I've found an adapter plate for the rear deck that will allow you to install 6.5" speakers in place of the OEM 8".
I already own some pretty nice Polk DB 6.5" speakers, but they're 4 ohm, whereas the OEM are 8 ohm.

What do I need to do to run these speakers?

OEM replacements, that more then likely your only bet. Also they are going to cost you a pretty penny.

Since my 1995 850 N/A had 6x9's in the rear deck and Volvo wanted $150 a pop for them so $300 for two damn speakers. I bought aftermarket speakers, Boston Acoustics and was greatly pleased. However most aftermarket 6x9's won't fit usually. So I went with something smaller which fit with minimal modification.
