S70 stalling problem
My parents have a 1998 S-70, problem is that it stall's on them every now, and then. They have taken it to 2 different Volvo dealer's, the one replaced some vacuum hose cleaned some part's, etc... the other one has replaced the cam sensor according to my dad. They have replaced the fuel filter also, what could it be?????
Are there any trouble codes stored after the stalling?
My guess is a bad fuel pump, but purely a guess based on no diagnostic info on your car, and my experience with stalling S70s.
Act like your on CSI, give us any info, like fault codes, engine temp, outside temperature, fuel level etc. Does it start back up after stalling? Does it happen when driving, idling, coming to a stop?

It's my parents car, and they have since moved to florida, problem started when we driving from Wisconsin
Great, good info.
If it is stalling when coming to an idle, you want to look at what control your idle speed.
Primarily I would look at cleaning the idle valve and the throttle body.
Check and make sure there are no vacuum leaks, even though that should set a trouble code.

Thank you for the reply, they have taken it to 2 different Volvo dealers, one here in Georgia, and one in Florida. The dealer here I believe cleaned those parts, and did replace some vacuum lines,I've read that they could have a MAF problem, does this fit those symptoms??? or fuel pump????
Thanks again
Thanks again
It has the symptoms of a MAF possibly, but it would normally set codes.
A fuel pump will normally cause a stall and no start condition.
And are you sure it is a '98? A '99 is a completely different animal (beast)!

It's a 1998 for sure, I don't beleive they are having any irractic idle, just every now, and then stall's, and takes a minute or so to restart, and sometimes loop's on the highway or surge my be a better term
Take it to a dealer and tell them to do a reading on the mass air flow sensor. The exact symptoms were happening to my '96 850 and it took about $1000 before they finally figured it out. I had the erratic idle at stop, sometimes stalling, hard to restart, and yet it had no codes.
