I have found copper AC Delcos are best in Volvo, followed by Motorcraft. Copper pluggs are best. Volvo pluggs have been known to loose their electrode into the engine causing dammage. I am sure many will say I am wrong, but AC's come out looking good after 36K and Motorcrafts had mild wear. All others wore out as early as 15K like NKG's. These cars are hard on pluggs. Never use platnum pluggs or leave them in too long. Never remove the plugs unless the engine is cold. If they feel tight comming out, spray carb cleaner into the plug well and work the plug back and forth untill it comes out freely. These engines are bad about carbon deposits on the threads of the plug inside the engine. Never force them out if they feel tight once broken loose or dammage to the threads may result. Also use a torque wrench to tighten the new ones in to be sure they are properly in. Good Luck!

I only use the Volvo plugs. Although I have never had and fall apart on me, I have heard that did happen once.
These cars run best on the old school copper plugs with the single arm going over the tip. NOT the fancy platinum tip or multi-tip plugs. I have run my Volvo plugs as high has 50,000 miles on my car and they still looked good. When I install mine I do use anti-seize. If the car is not running super smooth I will check them, reset the gap to .0028 and brush them off with a wire brush. I try to replace them at 30,000 as suggested but the car will usually run smooth longer. I don't like running them longer even if it seems to be doing ok with them.
Check your wires (if you have a '98), they have dates on them. Like year/week. If they are older than 10 years old, change them as well. I only use Bougi which are the OEM maker.
