Hi all. My 2000 S70 got totalled a few weeks ago. Most of the heavy crash damage was to the front end. The engine, transmission and interior are all intact including very well kept leather seats. It was the SE model. Can I sell the car as is? Is there any value in selling/parting out or just junking it? The tow yard wants me to sign over title and they'll forgive the storage fees. Not quite sure what to do here. Any thoughts would help. Here's a link to a video I have of the car post crash. https://youtube.com/shorts/p-GaSf6Mfe8?si=UY_tar8s9qrw-Szs
If you have the space and time and skills you could sell parts off it. A good leather interior is certainly worth something also the motor/trans depending om how many miles and whether MT or AT.. Also scrap metal and catalytic converters are worth $$$ What are the storage fees and where is it located?
Thanks for the great advice! I really should have known better. When I had the accident the police asked if I needed a tow. I was sort of disoriented and agreed to a tow to the tow yard. Biggest mistake I made. Storage fees are $650. I may sign over the title to them even though I know I'm being scammed. I'll make that decision in a day or two. I have no resources to take the car apart even though I realize it makes sense. I'm in Hanover Maryland - that's where the vehicle is located. Motor, trans (AT) doors, interior and even original Volvo floor mats are in excellent condition. Wheels are still in great shape.
It's basically legalized theft. The fees are designed to basically end it. In some parts of the country competing tow drivers kill each other, have designated areas of influence like the mafia, all kinds of crazy stuff.
I've never seen a 98-00 S70 with good seats. That's really a curiosity. In any case though I don't think anybody will really pay for parts.
I have scrapped 2 of these - a 2000 V70 and a '98 S70 (currently in process.) I have had no problem finding buyers for the parts. Facebook groups (Volvo) and Facebook Marketplace are a big help
Unfortunately for the previous owner of the S70, after spending $3k on fixing it up for his daughter the idler pulley for the timing belt failed and caused a little dance between pistons and valves. Goodbye motor! Hello parts car!
