RE-Write the ad:
-----------------------------------------
Up for sale is my 1998 Volvo s70 with automatic transmission. Great daily driver, good on gas (averages 23mpg). Has Anti-Lock Brake System, power seats, power windows, heated seats, sunroof, power locks, climate control, power mirrors.

Very nice black paint, shines like a mirror when washed. Interior is a charcoal gray, all leather. Dash and center console have real wood grain trim.

Here is a list of maintenance items that has been completed recently:
- New PCV System completely replaced.
- New Timing belt and tensioner
- New Water pump
- New radiator
- Full Tune Up
- Stereo Upgrade to connect iPod

This is a great price for a car that should be trouble free for a while.

Call or text me 618520 5361, my names Ryan. (I don't always check my email so a text or call is better)

CL is a general sales tool. All the stuff in the add will scare the hell out of anyone.

(They think) You purchased the car 6 months ago and it was so run down that you had to do all of that work on it? What a piece of crap!!! I want no part of that car that has worn you down in 6 months that you now want to dump it.

Just put the car out there with a little basic information which will tell people that it should be in good condition. Most "older people" would purchase a "nice old safe Volvo" for a child or grand child to get back and forth to school safely. They don't want to think it's a money pit and fast as heck so their child will kill themselves or get speeding tickets that no one wants to pay.

I use www.NADAGuides.com for value information. I would as no less than $3,500 (ask $3,850) if I were you. The motor doesn't have 200,000 on it so when people call and ask about mileage tell them "the motor is not original and has about ***,*** miles on it.

Oh, I would pull that ARD tune and sell it separately. Or you can send it to me for helping you get that thing sold.

What rspi said.

Several things in your ad would scare off most buyers:
  1. TMI; way too much info in there. You're ad is preaching to a volvo enthusiast; do you have any idea what a small niche mkt that is?
  2. You've only owned it since Jan (< year) yet you have done all that work to it, so you could sell it at a loss? Doesn't make any sense..
  3. Too many miles...
  4. etc..

Wow thanks! I appreciate the insight that makes perfect sense. I hadn't actually thought about this from the perspective of the average person who knows nothing about Volvos, but I see how this ad is a little overly detailed and intimidating. Guess I don't really need to mention everything about the car in the listing, just if they ask! Haha hmm a free green tune for helping me out? I don't know that sounds like a pretty incredible deal...

Lol, it is. I believe in miracles so "incredible deals" are a big step down.

Just think, you were sitting on a car that you wanted to sell and was prepared to DROP the price on. Instead you got some good advice that you didn't have to pre-pay for. Now you will likely sell the car soon for a HIGHER price. That's incredible. I'll pm you my mailing address.

haha I guy actually just came and looked at it and test drove it. He initially saw my recent smaller and less intimidating post, but continued down craigslist and found my older more intimidating list of repairs. He printed it out and brought it with him, but he is also a former v70 owner so the laundry list of fixes didn't scare him Maybe ive got it sold now, however the car totally needs suspension and the AC doesn't work due to the evaporator coil :'(

How bad is the evaporator leak? Mine leaks a little. Most will hold freon for a month or so.

Oh, anyone that has owned any of the P1 Volvos know that no matter how much work you do to these cars there is still something wrong that needs to be fixed.
