Default Seat Belt Assembly - Driver's Side

Hi All,

I have enjoyed reading some of the posts as a guest for a while, so today I finally joined officially. We have a 1999 Volvo S70. We love the car, but the repair bills are kind of steep. We recently had the Seat Belt assembly go on the driver's side. They want $530+ to fix it -- most of that is the part.

Has anyone attempted to fix this on their own before? Is it doable? I can get a used part from various used parts dealers from a "non-blown" salvage for $95-125. I've looked at the connections in the car and they seem like a few bolts, but I am not a mechanic. So, kind of worried about doing some more damage.

Thanks and I'll take whatever advice someone can give. MT89

It is not that bad at all to replace it.

Thanks. I sent you a separate message, but I'll post some photos. Just not sure about a couple of spots where I might run into trouble.

Thanks for the advice. MT89

Default Photos of issue

Here are the photos. I am particularly worried about what happens after unbolting the big bolts in the first picture. Also, not sure what the silver compressor looking thing is in the 3rd picture. Finally, not sure how to get to the bottom part of the seat belt. Volvo is usually pretty good about providing access to controls/etc., but I can't figure this one out with the power seat adjuster (pic4).

I've also received some advice about disconnecting the battery, so I hopefully don't engage the airbags.

Thanks for assistance/advice, MT89

First unplug the electrical plug. Then remove the 2 big bolts and the one holding the clamp on the cylinder looking thing. Then Pull the seatbelt assembly away from the body.

On the seat lift the front of the control panel straight up first then slide it back to unhook the cover from the back of the seat.

Not there is 2 ways it can be hold to the seat. One is just a bolt. The other is a lock that holds it. If it is the lock style there is a little rectangle that you will push in the pull the seatbelt out.
