Hello, My name is Zach. I'm more of a Volkswagen guy. I own a 1988 Jetta GLI.

I'm here because my friend is having a problem with his Volvo and I figured I would try to help him out. If you could give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated. (I searched, but didn't find what I needed. Sorry if this subject has been covered before)

According to this diagram, the shifter Ball Seat (#3) that holds the ball down in the shifter box isn't doing its job anymore. Whenever the car is put into 1st gear, the ball seat itself lifts. I saw that there were two clips that this piece snaps into, but couldn't get it to snap back onto the clips. (the top of the ball seat is broken and would require replacement anyway)

So could anyone let me know how we might go about fixing this issue? I assume this would mean taking the shift **** out too, which I would also need help with.

I assume you are speaking of a manual shift car?

 

Yes sir, as per the picture it is a manual car.

 

zach, that picture doesn't look like the one for mine (1994, 850) especially the ball seat (no. 3). What year is the car? It probably makes a difference. Sorry I don't know how to upload my picture in this narrative box.
