Default Similar, but newer volvo recommendations?

Hey Everybody,

I'm wondering if anyone has any input on other newer Volvo models that are similar to the 1999 S70 T5. I really like my T5 but when it dies, or when I replace my wife's car, I would like a newer than 10 year old vehicle. Any suggestions?

Also, while I am really leaning towards another Volvo, If you have good reasoning for another make I would like to hear it.

BTW, what I like most about my current T5 I would say is the power and handling as well as the very comfortable seats and ride. All the extra bells and whistles are pretty nice too.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I think it will be hard to replace the awesome car that is the S70 T5, I have one myself (1998). The model that replaced it (to this day, I don't know why they stopped making S70's) is the S60. Don't get me wrong, the S60 is nice, but not as good at the S70. Then there's always the S80, which is a little bigger, but same idea basically.

While it could be many years from now (my Volvo just turned 100000 miles a month ago), I'm probably going to go with a 2006 or 2007 S60 2.4 T5.

I saw a 2009 S80 at an auction the other day, apparently it belonged to the district manager of our zone for Volvo corporate. Looked extremely nice, but have heard pass/fail things about the s80's.

If I was going newer models I would get the V70 and if the deal was good enough maybe an S60. But I like the V70 the best. Pretty sure it's on the same chasis as the S80 on the newer models, but not certain.

I'm with Reminiscence about buying an S60 after my S70 dies...but I'd rather get a 2.5T, T5, or R.

As far as other cars go...the Toyota Camry is always a safe buy. I believe the SE is a good trim to buy because it's got a couple touch-ups (spoiler, sport grille, etc.) and a few extra features.

they offer a t5 in the s40 and c30, those are pretty cool. if i had to get rid of my s70 i would get a c30 but you might need all 4 doors.

Default Update: I think we have a winner.

OK,

So I went to 2 different Volvo dealers and test drove a couple of cars.

Dealer 1.
2008 S60 2.5T = Very disapointing, felt more like my grandfather's old buick LeSabre then anything like a S70 T5. My faith in Volvo was waivering to say the least.

Dealer 2.
2008 T5 - Nice car I liked it alot, reminded a lot of the s70.

BUT then it happend....
I went for a ride in a 2006 S60 R, 300hp, 295 foot-pounds of torque....
I think I'm in love. LOL but seriously this car ROCKED! I have found the replacement for the S70 when it's time comes. Ya know that feeling when the turbo hits and you get pushed back in your seat? Well its kinda like that, but all the time! I really like that car. I'm not at the point that I need another car, but I really want that car.

Ummmm, is 4 cars for 2 people too many?

Default Update...

I couldn't stop thinking about that 2006 S60 R I test drove. So a few days after my last post I went back to the dealer... The R was still there but so was another one, this other R was the 6-speed manual. I couldn't help myself, the 6-speed S60 R is now happily sitting in my driveway next to the T5.

Default 2008 V70 and XC70 are dogs

Back In January I drove an '08 V70 and an XC70. Both with the 235 HP normally aspirated six cyclinder. Both were dogs performance wise. I think Volvo got the hint as a T6 model is offered for '09. Ended up buying an '08 Saab 9-3 Aero XWD Sportcombi. High pressure turbo V6 making 280 ponies, lots of fun.... the choice was easy... BTW, you are correct that the new V70 and XC70 are based upon the new S80 platform.
