Smell of Coolant as The Engine Warms up
Hello folks,
My 1998 T5 (stick shift)had this issue for several months now. A persistent smell ofcoolant appears as the coolant temperature needle reaches normal temperature (goes right in the middle of the dial. There is no smell if the coolant temperature is below the midline (usually during highway drive at lower RPM, when ambient temperature is below 50’s or in city when the engine is not fully warmed up). There appears no leak of the coolant, though. I don’t know if this is connected to the smell issue, but there is apparent decrease of warm air that dries a windshield. It is OK on driver’s side, but takes forever to dry the windshield on the passenger’s side. The heating otherwise is normal.
Some of the antifreeze might had gotten in the engine area when I had the t belt replaced, but that was in early fall I appreciate your help.
