SRS(Air Bag) warning light
Hi Volvo experts,
I appreciate your help for following.
I installed new clutch and timing belt for my Volvo S70-non turbo(5 speed manual) with much help from my uncle. For this process, we took the engine out and mounted again. Also, I had to remove steering wheel/air bag and completedash to replace the AC evaporator. Now, we have mounted all back andthe car runs like new. HOWEVER, THE "SRS"(AIRBAG LIGHT) DOESN'T GO AWAY.I TRIED TO READ THE CODEWITH OBDII AND IT DOESN'T DETECT or DELETE THE CODE. WE CHECKED THE WIRING AND IT'S LOOKSOK TO ME.I wonder if any one could help me ? Thanks

RE: SRS(Air Bag) warning light
Hi tech,
Pleasecanyou elaborateon whatyou said in previous email:"Did you lock the SRS contact reel with the screw before removing the steering wheel?". It looks like I missed some important steps.
All I did was:
- Disconnect the battery
- Unscrew two air bag bolts behind the steeringwheel.
- Pull the airbagcomponent out
- Remove (pull) the wire that connects the airbag
...Remove the dash board to replace the AC evaporator....
- Re-connect the wire to airbag (green female connector)
- Replace the airbag component back in place
- Re-tighten the two screws (air bag bolts).
- Re-connect the battery
Thank you for your advise and time,

RE: SRS(Air Bag) warning light
Next remove the air bag from the steering wheel.Turn the steering wheel so that the top is to one side. There is a hole in the back of the steering wheel.Insert a long T-30 and remove the screws for the airbag.Always remove and tighten the right side screw for the air bag first. If not then the horn might not work.Next take the little T-20 screw stored in the steering wheel. That will get screwed into the hole on top of where the bolt for the steering wheel is.It will hold the Contact reel from unrolling.
Note: Break the bolt for the steering wheel loose before installing the small screw.
Remove the bolt holding the steering wheel in.It is a 18mm head bolt. Then lift the steering wheel off.
This is from my post about removing the dash for the evaperator replacement.
TheRED section is the step you probably forgot.
You missed removing the screw (Red arrow) and installing it in the hole(Blue arrow).
Most likely you broke the SRS contact reel and will need to replace it.

RE: SRS(Air Bag) warning light
Thanks so much for you help. Can I just buy the screw or I have to replace the whole contact reel. The balck hole seems to be perfect - not broken. Also,I don't remember seeing this screw when I remove the airbag - I remember the plastic warning tag wasn't attached to any thing(I'm not 100% sure though).. It is really necessary to attached the tag ? I though other two plasitc locks("Y" shape blackstick that helps to rotate the black plasitic part thatrelease the signal)is enough ? Do you think the warning light is due to this loosen yellow tag ? Thx

PSThissite really helps me to learnt the mechanic/basic, which is my interest. Thanks so much.

RE: SRS(Air Bag) warning light
I'm thinking...perhaps the previous owner didn't attached the yellow warning tag. Also, I never had this "SRS" warning light before ...I have following OBD II and it doesn't detect the SRS. So, I"m thinking where my OBD II is not good or not ?

RE: SRS(Air Bag) warning light
I am 99.99% sure it is broke if you didn't install that screw.
But if you want to take the time to remove it and inspect it you could OHM the wires from the SRS plug to where the 2 wire plug gets plugged in.
CAUTION only test with it removed from the car!
You will pretty much have to buy a new one from here.
Like I said above also most scanners won't read SRS.
It takes a $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 scanner to be able to read SRS codes.
