Starter + other things
My starter went out on my 1998 Volvo S70 - Automatic. A friend of mine is willing to install one for me in his garage thats where the car is right now, he's looking over it. He's not a licenced mechanic but can do some work on cars such as starter, belts (excluding timing belt), and other things. It will save me labour plus i get to chill with my buddy. I was looking at this website to order a starter. A Bosch Reman from Auto Parts Way is about $300 dollars, and gives a 1 year/12,000km warranty. I looked at some ebay listings to and found this:

What bad experience did you have with Auto Parts Way ?
I don't know about that technical stuff, but its starting very badly when it manages to start, and makes the most horrible sound. $100, what brand and warranty, thats my question.
Don't know what option to take, or just take to a local volvo dealer for the starter and alternator. Let my friend do the simple stuff.

Here we go, since you asked I'll vent!
I searched the net for best price on a couple of parts for my new-to-me S60. Found the above mentioned canadian (Mississauga based I think) site with lowest cost parts. I ordered the parts that I really needed and then top up the order with a couple of other "filler" parts to get over $100 and save the ~$30 shipping. They only sent me the filler parts and charged me the shipping costs. After a few emails back and forth, I found out that the parts I really needed and the only reason I placed the order in the 1st place are no longer available! I paid to return the shipment of my partial order in it's original packaging to get a refund, and did not see the cash for a few months along with a number of emails asking for it. I think they also charged me a restocking fee but I cannot remember for sure, as it was a couple of years ago.
Of’ course that is not my only bad experience buying online but it is one I recall every time I look for stuff online.

This is going to be my first time buying online (maybe), right now my car is just sitting on my driveway. It cranks after 10 tries but i don't want to push it. I will try calling local shops on Monday. I am kind of afraid of buying parts online. Since most people have tried, I was wanting to try too.
Hey, Delirious
Since you have a 2000 S70 2.4, I was wondering, how are they ? Many people have said to stay away from 1999-2000 models. I am looking for an S70 for my girlfriend but couldn't come across any good 1998 models, except in Quebec. Saw a 1998 Volvo S70 with 460,000km going for a $1000. hahaha
