Default T5 engine swap ?

HI all, I have a '98 S70 n/a with a MANUAL trans. I am looking at a 2001 S60 T5 that is a low mileage total loss wreck for CHEAP. Engine runs good. I restore and customise cars for a living so engine swaps are not a big deal but what I need to know is will the '01 S60 engine bolt up to my manual trans and will I run into any major wiring issues ?

Why ? Because my car is closing in on 250,000 and is a non turbo

Thanks, Scott

Scott,

IMO a huge (maybe impossible) undertaking. 01 S60 uses the ME7 ECU because it has ETM, VVT etc to control and all of the complications that go with these and other differences. harnesses, ecu and sockets have to be changed throttle sensor added etc.

I just bought a nice engine out of a 99s70 and the head casting has the provisions for the VVT, although it doesn't have the VVT and it uses coil over ignition. I bought it to replace the block only in my 96 850 na.

The car I am considering is a running driving wreck and I will be getting the complete car, so I will have all of the engine harness, computers etc. I haven't looked at the 2 side by side but aren't the block and mounts all the same since the 850 series ? Granted I am used to doing 911 and 944 turbo swaps which just involves swapping out the ecu's and the engine harness, I am assuming this would be the same, no ? The only issue I could see would be if the engine harness is somehow tied into the main cars harness. Maybe I should look for an 850 turbo instead but this car is just WAAAYYYYY to cheap. Like under 200.00 cheap

Canbus is everywhere on this car and data is shared between modules so the ECU has to communicate with the gauge cluster (for example), you'll have to change it and the harness that goes to it, the gas peddle might have to be changed to accept the canbus peddle position sensor, ABS module interface? To me it seems very risky.

If it were me (and I had the space) I'd buy the car and part it out. use the money to buy a used 850 or Gen 1 v/s 70 engine.

Or if you can remove the VVT part? use your intake manifold, throttle body, and buy a M4.3 or M4.4 turbo ECU, engine compartment harness. but then you're back to the distributor and cam position sensor that may or may not fit the cams?

AHHhhhh now I see. This sucks. perhaps parting it out will be the thing to do. I have been looking for 850 turbo's and can't seem to find a complete one and forget about aT5 s70 around here. All the turbo 850's I find are missing most of the top end and the wirig harnesses have been trn aprt wen removing the engine bits
