Default Tank leaking after new fuel pump

Hi Guys,
Replaced the fuel pump on my daughter's 1998 S70. I have petrol spewing out of the connection that contains the non return valve on the filler pipe to the tank. Obviously too much pressure build up. Does anyone know if this might be a normal occurrence and if so, what is the best approach to fixing it.

Also, should I have also replaced the fuel filter?

Cheers

Rob

Did you install the filter backwards?

Hi rspi,
I haven't changed the filter. It wasn't due. Someone said that I should put one in with the new pump. Could the filter be blocked? The car is running OK. There was two pipe connections to the pump housing. I think the other might be a breather. Though why would that pack up now?

I am a bit perplexed as to why the tank is pressurising.

Cheers

Got it fixed! Looks like I did not press the fittings to the fuel pump assembly down far enough. These fittings must have a valve in them. When I released them and re installed them they went right down to the housing. Quite a critical fit. I had to turn the pump assembly a few degrees so that the fittings were DIRECTLY square with the pipe to the pump before they would go on smoothly!

Another lesson learned.

Cheers

hi guys, had a whim from a member having difficulty removing the pipes to the fuel pump. I gave him this advice if anyone else has difficulty removing them.

A special tool is generally required , which has a "V" notch in the end of a flat tool about 3/4 inch wide and turned up at the end about 30 degrees.

I bought 2 cheap screwdrivers and bent the ends up about half an inch - 13 mm - on both screwdrivers. Place the screwdrivers on either side of the fitting to the fuel pump assembly and gently but firmly prise upwards. There is a quick release on the fitting. The fitting will "pop" up. You will read the problem I had reconnecting these. They have to be very straight/aligned with the pipes on the fuel pump assembly.

Hope this is helpful to another in the future

Cheers
