Default Throttle body

I hve a 99 s70 glt 2.5 lpt 200,000 miles and the throttle body is going out. I've already cleaned it and it didn't help. I really don't fell like dropping 600 dollars on the xedomex throttle body. So my question is if i find a throttle body of the same year make and model of mine will it work or do i still need the software upgrade from volvo. I know that if it will work i need to find one with a yellow sticker.

Replacing the throttle body was the 1st thing I did on mine. A friend of mine is a mechanic and a guy that works with him sold me my 99 S70.

They tried a used throttle body on it and it needed to be programed. It was $118 (to program at Volvo) and the program failed to take. So they needed another $100 or so used throttle body and another $118 to program (Volvo was gonna charge each time to program, Pass or fail.

I don't know if you could find a used one that was close to the production date on yours and it would work without programing or not. We were going to try that but couldn't find one fast enough.

Then we decided on a new one for $538 from Volvo using the junk yards dealer discount. Then the Volvo service manager said no we weren't getting a dealer discount it would be $758 for a new one.

I ordered the Xemodex over night for $699 and get $100 back. Installed in less than 10 mins. (Shameful admission when we did it we didn't unhook the battery. It ran at about half power and got twice the gas mileage. About 3 days later I unhooked the battery all was well and it has pretty darn good power now for a base.)

All the numbers we could figure out on it the Xemodex seemed like the cheapest option.

I'm not at all a Volvo or car expert but I read for hours about the throttle body issue on the S70's and the Xemodex is the closest I have seen to fixing it somewhat permanently.

well i did work at the volvo dealer for 3years. i don't work there anymore. your throttle is a fly by wire. you will need a new throttle from the dealer and the programing. a used throttle will not work. it is programed once at the dealer or sweeden for one car, never be used on another till sweeds get it back and do there master programing. there was a warranty but it is gone after 10years and 200,000 miles.
