Default Tire, suspension and axle recs

Ive got a 98 S70 T5 that the lady drives. Anybody have some good tire recs? I dont need any super high performance tire, just a good all around cheap tire for the 16" rims. What are you guys running? Also, both the front struts are shot. Car has about 220k on it and cycles all the suspension travel every time we hit a couple successive dips/bumps in the road and recently its been blasting the bump stops. We have a good used parts supplier here in Chattanooga but he wants $200 a side for the strut/spring assembly. Is this a good deal? He's been pretty fair on other parts Ive bought but this seems a little high for used suspension parts. I can find the struts new for $70 a piece but would rather not deal with using a spring compressor. I've used one before doing springs on my old WRX but it sucks. What do y'all think? TIA

Tire's are tires. I am running the Nokian R on my car, but I live in Edmonton and its -30 and icy right now, in the summer I will probably go with some BFG Radial T/As.

If you want middle of the road then go with some Falken ze-912's, or federals. Your old lady will never be able to tell the difference between tires, and neither would you from the sounds of it.

$200 a side for struts installed? Why would you want to put in used struts?
Strut compressors really aren't that hard to use, the partsource here rents them out free of charge... maybe you should do a little price checking around your area, call the parts stores, and Volvo and see what a shock kit with new parts costs.

FCP Groton has the front strut kit for $330

we just went through our '98 S70. It now drives like a new car. We have Continental tires, very quiet, good grip, reasonable price. Bilstein HD shocks/struts. Front strut mounts from the XC90. Rear springs from the V70 wagon. We spent some $$$, but very worth it!
