What type of driving do you do. Most tires now days are pretty good. If you do casual street driving, look for something rated for high milage and good fuel economy. If you race around town look for something better for that. I alway purchase Michelins.

Michelins. Using Primacy MXV4's right now which are the direct replacements for what ever came on the care new (but these are the fourth or fifth set of tires on this car). I always use stock shocks also so the ride remains pretty much as it was when it was new.

IMHO, cheap tires are no bargin - and although I don't drive on snow (at least in this car) I do drive in rain so wet performance is important - heck almost any tire is good on dry ground.

Never drive much over 100 so high speed ratings aren't too important but heat disipation is a part of that rating so you you may need that in the southwest as the highways get hot.

I use the Bridgestone Pole Positions, not as nice as Michelin but have been very happy, very good dry/wet. OK in snow

I am using all Season Pirelli P4s. On my last job I was flying 80 on a back road in south Dakota heading to a telecom site 100 miles south of Canada in North Dakota. My windshield was icing up bad. Well I had been around a few curves with no problems. It took me almost a 1/4 mile to get stopped the road was so slick. I could not lean over my car to scrape the windows or my feet would slide out from under me. Those tires went around every curve and not once hinted at how slick the road was until I tried to stop and then take off again.

I also used the Bridgestone Potenza Pole Positions. Great traction and a smooth ride, but I wasn't happy with the mileage I got out of them.

Could have been my alignment that shortened their life or could be that they are just a softer rubber. Either way, they were decent.

I would definitely go with Michelin though, like the others are saying.
