Default Tires and coolant

1998 s70 non turbo 67k miles.

Tires appear to have some dry rot at 68 74 80 mph you can feel vibration not to bad though. Tires have a lot of tread hate to get rid of them but not sure they are really safe.

Coolant smell can't tell if I'm smelling a very slight coolant smell or just mildew from car sitting. Any suggestions?

Pull up carpet under gas pedal and see if it is damp. possible leaking heater core.
Dry rotted tires @ 80 mph? You got more guts than I do.

How long had this car been sitting anyway? Sitting does stop mechanical wear but chemical processes continue unabated.

Never put coolant in the tires. LOL

Change the tires and check the heater core for leaks.

Default Air up heater core top off tires with coolant

Air up heater core top off tires with coolant ok got it thanks for the TIP. lol

I going to go with Michelin pilot 195 60/15 for tires and decided just to change out the heater core and o rings from ipd.

After that it is time to figure out why it sounds loud. It is either a bad muffler or bad cat. As it warms up it gets better but still pretty loud.

in 08 it got a new timing belt wih 57k now has 67k

1998 s70 non-t

I put Eagle GT standard size ultra High performance 3 season tires on mine and it corners so hard on dry pavement I cracked the windshield. The old tires would spin at highway speeds in rain and snow if I was on boost going up a slope now it never happens. My speed on rain went up by 20 more miles a hour in rain on the same corners and I can barely spin the tires in snow. Unless I bring in boost now.

What are the date codes on the tires? Will be four numbers in an elliptical frame - maybe three numbers if your tires are original.

Default T&C

Tires look like they say 04 makes sense. Back ones ok front dry rotted holding air driving ok but seems safe to change them out so that is what we are going to do probably all four (4).

Coolant sorta smell I think is just some old sitting around smell. Turn on heat had no smell at all then she drove it all week and smell is definately gone. So maybe just musty.

Thanks

It's not unusual for the heater core to leak just a little. Every once in a while I get a whif of coolant myself.
