Default Transmission maintenance

I have conflicting opinions about transmission flushing and transmission drain and refill (3 qts).

I have a 2000 S70 with almost 80K miles and still in excellent condition. I've heard from the dealership that flushing is recommended but not required. Is the flushing worth it's price? Is draining and replacing the synthetic oil just as effective? Tnx.

First off is your car a turbo or non turbo? If non turbo you should use the synthetic because that is what is in the 5spd auto trans. I would look at the fluid if just a little dirty(slight dark red) I recommend no more than a change. If it is real dirty I would recommend a flush and I personally believe it is better with synthetic trans fluid(just like engine oil).
Just my opinion from experience.

I recommend to change the oil.

Changing the trans oil is easy. There is a bolt at the bottom of the trans housing. Unplug, drain, clean the bolt-end magnet and reinstall. Refill oil through the trans dip stick and replace amount taken; check fluid level when done. You will not be able to replace all the fluid but it is easier than an oil change for you do not have a filter to deal with.

To totally drain, you will need to remove the trans line going to the radiator, but that's another write up.

I think flushing is fine, but I would not let any additives or cleaning agents be added to the fluid.
