transmission oil change for Volvo S70 - Non turbo (5 speed - manual)
Hi Volvo experts,
I appreciate your help for following.
I just installed new clutch and timing belt for my Volvo S70-non turbo(5 speed manual) with much help from my uncle.
When we mount the engine back - we spilt some transmission oil and I wonder :
- How do I change the transmission oil ?
- How much I should put in ?
- What kind of oil I need ?
Thanks much.

RE: transmission oil change for Volvo S70 - Non turbo (5 speed - manual)
Hello KB,
Please note that this is based on the 850's info, and may not apply to the S70. So, use this as a reference only and wait till an S70 owner/driver posts a reply.
As to the gear oil:
Usually the drain plug is located at the lowest point of the gearbox housing. It is generally obvious, as there is only one bolt that is different in size and kind of "stands up". In the case of 850, there seems to be a filter, as well as magnetic chip detector (integral to the drain plug), and the filter seems like a replacement item.
To put in the oil, some people use pump, or if you can bear, use anything that fits in the fill port (which is probably obvious too) and keep putting in oil until it starts to overflow.
The gear oil specified for the 850 is ATF Type-F. The owner's manual should specify it, or wait till some one with better knowledge replies, or buy a commercially available service manual, or call & ask a dealer.
I hope this gives you some hints. If if were my car, I would go with synthetic fluid (though it may not make much difference).
