My 98 V70R (turbo) with 150k has had a failing air pump for awhile - high pitched whine which seems to have disappeared the past few days. I assume it has bit the dust and is not functioning at all. At approx. $400, I'm tempted to leave it for awhile. I know its primary function is to inject air at a cold start to help warm the cat, but are there any issues/problems I'm likely to encounter if I do leave it?

Just your chech cel gonna be on and thats it. You can get those pumps rebuilt for like $100. A guy in maryland rebuilds them. My pump been out of work for couple of years now.
