Default VOL-FCR working

Hi Guys,
Have worked out how to get the Vol-FCR program working. A big mistake that I originally made was to install a USB to Serial concertor that uses the Prolific chipset. These are the convertors that gererally cost about $2.50!!

First I bought a Vol FCR cable on Ebay: TinyDeal - VOLVO Scanner OBD.

Next I bought a USB Serial adapter from ebay here - has the FDTi chipset $14 including postage: eBay Australia Shop - I Wanne Buy Shop: Home Entertainment, DIY Tools, Computer Networking

You have to go into Windows device manager and set the com port ( with cable and adapter connected to computer!) to com1. If there is a conflict you will need to try and find out what else is sharing the COM1 port and change the conflicting address. For me the problem was removing the Prolific drivers. Like sticky tar!

I kept getting a time out signal when connecting. Due to the sharing of the COM1 port issue. This is now resolved. Resets the CEL! Reads the codes.

Does not seem to work if engine is running for me. Is only a fault code reader. I also have the ELM system which reads the performance statistics.
So I now use them in conjunction.

One more thing, and then I'll get out of your hair, The VOL FCR DOES work on the S70 T5 which has the Motronic 4.3. There is also another S70 and V70 in our family. Volvo's are good second hand options. They are the only car the depreciatiates greater and quickly the more that is spent on Marketing!!!

Hope this helps someone having trouble getting their code reader working.

Regards
