Default Volvo S70 tuning questions

Hi to all!

Im a newbie here seeking some advices on volvo tuning!
Recently I bought a 2000 volvo s70 2.4t classic. I like this car very much, but it needs some work done! Only thing that I don't like about it is the a/m gearbox! I didn't manage to find with a manual gearbox! . Im thinking about tuning this volvo, but I don't know where to start, and should I start tuning automatic gearbox volvo? My friend suggested for me to go to Germany and buy an s70 T5. The reason why am I writing here is because I have pracitcally no tuning options for volvo here in Latvia! But I would like to tune this car! I can only get, and I will get a chiptuning which adds about 30 bhp. If its not too much, it would be great if you could help me with step by step tuning advices!

I found some nice links in this forum and I am grateful for them!

Thank you in advance!

1. Welcome

2. What is your budget?

3. What is your Hp goal?

4. Since it is a 2000 you will not be able to use a MBC (Manual Boost Controller) on it. ME7 cars do not like MBC's.

5. This is what I suggest you do. 3" mandrel bent downpipe to a 2.5" mandrel bent free flowing Catback system with a Magnaflow muffler. As far as an intake goes the stock setup is the best. You could go with an EST ( http://www.eurosporttuning.com ) intake kit, but it is mostly for looks you wont gain much Hp if any from it. I would stick with a stock air filter new one of course and or a K&N panel filter. Or you could make your own CAI (Cold Air Intake) yourself. There are a few DIY (Do It Yourself) threads on intakes on this forum.

As far as chip tuning is concerned your going to have to send out for it most likely. And that means you will be carless for awhile till you get it back, unless you buy another stock ECU and put it in the car while your other one is being tuned. RICA, IPD, Upsolute, BSR, SpeedTuning USA, Inmotion are some nice chip tuners. I would have your car dynoed stock and then with the mods and then chip tuned for those mods. Be sure to get A/F ratios when you dyno your car.

6. I suggest before you start tuning that you buy some Silicone Turbo Hoses ( http://www.stylinmotors.com ) and or ( http://www.vivaperformance.com ), they both sell them. Viva sells SAMCO's and StylinMotors sells their own brand. I also suggest you get new vaccum lines and go with silicone ones from Stylin Motors Inc. Also get a Boost/Vaccum gauge most important. This can be hand from Egauges ( http://www.egauges.com ) and you can get a pod from LOTEK ( http://www.gaugepods.com ).

Thanks for the reply!

2. About the budget, Im planing on about 10000 - 15000 us dolars

3. I would like to have about 400 bhp or more!

4. Is manual boost controler something like chip?

Well actually I have a chip tuning company here in Latvia, and they are saying that I can get about 30 extra bhp with this chip.

But is it worth tuning volvo with a automatic gearbox?

Yes it is worth it. But I would suggest a manual transmission swap. And if you got 10-15 grand to work with you can do a lot of mods. Also with over 400 Hp the stock internals wont handle it or handle it well, so your going to want to beef up the internals.

Gearbox swap I would say would cost around 3-5 thousand abouts.

By "Internals", I mean RODS, PISTONS, ETC... Check out VMS (VolvoMotorSports)

Thanks for the link! Wow 3-5 thousand thats quite a lot, is it for stock gearbox or already 6 speed sport gearbox? I think I would rather spend 3-5 k for wide body kit & paint !
