Default "Would you be interested in a Volvo...?"

Said the woman who stopped by while I was taking parts of one of my parts cars. She said she'd had an accident and the car was sitting since last fall. She said it looked just like the one I was working on (black and V70), except it was a sedan. She just wanted it out of her yard for a couple hundred bucks.

Her description made me think I'd need hood, headlights, bumper, fenders, but I was definitely interested. I always get my hopes up, and even mentioned to my wife it could be AWD but of course not thinking that possibility was probable.

So I drive out to look at it. The fenders look good, only one headlight is smashed, and there is a small tear in the bumper cover. Yes, the hood needs to be replaced. I pop the hood and spy a turbo motor. I get out my flashlight and look under the rocker panels. It is very clean underneath. It spent most of its time in NH. I work my way to the back and again look underneath. I spy the rear differential! It's AWD! I do my best to contain my excitement. I didn't look for the badge before because I was sure it wasn't. I double take the rear and spy the AWD badge. Woohoo!

The interior is a little rough and it looks like the heater core leaked, but it's nothing I haven't done before.

"So how much do you want?" "$300." "I'll take it."

I'll be bringing it home as soon as I strip and remove one of my parts cars. Then I'll post some pictures. The body is very clean.

check the center u-joint for cracked cap(s) check flange joints for torn boots. If you got the cracked caps the drive shaft is junk. If you got torn boot(s) figure $250+ each part alone.

most of the customers cars I work on I remove the drive shafts and make them two wheel drive, simply because the customers don't want to spend the money, and these things do awesome FWD alone in the snow anyway.

my 2 cents.

RSPI - I knew you'd appreciate it.
Life - Thanks for suggestions on driveshaft. Volvos sure are awesome FWD or AWD. I'm currently running a wagon w/o the driveshaft.

I drove the car home today. I'll post pix tomorrow. Not enough daylight right now.

It started up immediately when I put a charged battery in it. Sounds good, runs decent. Running a tiny bit rough. I'll be getting full maintenance records soon.

Brake rotors are warped (pulsing pedal). Needs heater core. PO cleaned up interior pretty well. Swapped out headlight before driving so as not to attract too much attention.

The front is ugly but the rest looks great. You may have a hood there to swap with the busted one.

I swapped an XC70 hood and the car looks much better.

The list of stuff to fix on the car is growing (ignition tumbler - almost couldn't get it to start today, brakes, door light switch - don't know which one yet, windshield, parking brake cables, heater core).

But the car flies! I got into the throttle a couple times and it just took off!! I like the throaty exhaust note, too.

Nice collection. Are U a cop or maybe town govt related? If I remember correctly there is a law against having more than 3 unregistered vehicles in one's yard. (But that was a Taxachusetts law, so VT must be different). <<Proud product of Norwood-MA presently in MI>>.

Are U from the government? Yes, I have the 3 car limit to contend with. I have 4 visible unregistered, but am working to get to 3. 2 Volvos are at college with 2 of my kids. 1 more unreg is in my garage.
