Default wrecked S70

OK, so my son joined the club with his friends and had an accident with his (mine) 99 S70 AWD. At least he is ok. In all fairness it wasnt his fault, he was stopping and got hit in the rear by a van. The damage is estimated at 7500. The body shop guy who I have known for years said the only problem is that they insurance company may want to total the car. I dont want that as it was in perfect condition and had only 45000 miles. The body guy says that since it is a rear end hit he should be able to fix without any problem. Any thoughts on the book value?

The KBB on that car is in the range of $10,000 to $13,000. Good chance the insurance might pay to fix it. You can always buy the car back and have it fixed yourself even if the insurance calls it a total. You may have to haggle with them a little though to get fair market value for the car. The mileage is why the value is so high, and they will probably try to lowball you. Since it is the other guys insurance, you may want to contact you own insurance company and settle with them. Then they will battle the other company. I have done that in the past, paid my $500.00 deductable and got the money back months later, but the car was fixed within two weeks of the accident.

Yea the car, by definition, is not "totalled". however that is pretty costly, so it lies in the hands of your insurance agent. good luck

OK, so they valued the 99 S70 AWD at 13500. Fair price, then deducted 900 for salvage and they are sendingme a check and letting me keep the car. Not sure why they totaled it as I was told that the damage was about 7500-8000. I gues due to the age of the car they believed it was not worth keeping. Now I have to send the title to DMV to get it marked as a salvage vehicle.

KBB is not what is used to valve cars.

NADA is where you want to find that information.

@ Bobby, this is an old thread. You will not get a response.

I always use www.NADAGuides.com to check car values. That's what insurance companies use.
