RE: xm radio
XM as far as I know do not use suction cups for mounting and only use vent clips. I have mine installed on the center vents, as you can see in this picture.
I have mine hardwired to the car so that it does not use my cig lighter. The power cable goes into the vent, down through a small hole drilled through the vent tube to behing the climate controls and the stock radio. Once you take apart the cig plug on the power cable, I connected the outer contacts to a wire which ran to ground and the center contact to a wire which I ran to the ACC wire, which is located on the steering column.
The antenna is run through the vent hole again to behind the stereo and out the passenger side to where it is placed on the corner of my roof.
I use a cassette adapter with mine to give the best quality for use with the stock system. The FM transmitter sounds terrible. These wires are not hidden in my setup.
This would be my recommended setup, but there are an incredible amount of variations possible.
