00 S80 T6 economy
i did the math, and with a reasonable balance between highway and street, it gave me a solid 16.7mpg.... Now its that i just got off driving a 10.5mpg SUV that this is nice to me, but for an engine with 2 less cylinders, and 1/2 the displacement, should i expect a bit more?
Perhaps its an unecessary thing, but the first thing i did was swap in a K&n replacement panel filter, other than that i have no idea. So the question is coming from it, are there any small mechanical things (spark plugs, checking stuff) to be done to possibly up this a bit?
its got about 87,000 miles, 2000 s80 T6... '
thanks...

Agreed with all of the above (although I do sport a K&N as well).
Also air up your tires (35psi or better); anything less and you're losing out.
Have the alignment checked regularly.
Fuel system cleaner once in awhile.
See if switching octane or brands of gas helps.
I have been trying to squeeze out as much as I can out of gas for months now. I have seen a BIG drop due to temperature and the gas formulation. With my S60 I was consistently getting 31-32 in city mode. Now I strain to get 27-28. If you are in a region that experiences 'winter' then justunderstand that you might be getting 10-15% lower mileage than in summer weather. If you tend to warm up the car for a few minutes, get stuck at traffic lights, tend to speed up/slow down, or drive fast ... it all contributes.
Your car was EPA rated at 17/25/20 city/hwy/combined. They might be unrealistic numbers. BUT, if you are like me (getting 15+ percent below summer mileage) then your true mpg is closer to 1.17*16.7= 19.6 which isn't so bad.

RE: 00 S80 T6 economy
if I try Hard enough, I can average 19.4 mpg in my 01 s80 t6, and thats 14 miles highway and like 7-8 miles back roads.
but I just havent been trying for it and and averaging a 16.1, lol I blame that to my Turbo addiction in the car lmao
on a trip to new york from boston, my car can do25 mpg, all highway....

RE: 00 S80 T6 economy
Right now I'm getting around 22 (15 miles highway, 60MPH+ 5 miles city, 45MPH) on my 99 S80 T6. Almost every other weekend I drive 140miles on highway, then I get 24.7 - 25.0 MPG at 70 -80 MPH.
I use fuel system cleaner every 2000 miles. Gas - Chevron Premium. The Volvo dealer suggested me to use Chevron, coz' he said he noticed that it is better for the engine than Shell. Don't know about other brands. So I blindly switched to Chevron.
