1999 S80 Shifter moves but No Go

1999 S80 2.9 gas, shifter moves through gears smoothly but no actual gear selecting takes place and the Park indicater stays lit up in all positions. Any help is Good help!

does it feel loose when shifting? may be a good ideal to take out center counsel to make sure cable has not come off
