This is my first post so i hope i do it right. Thanks for all your Help!

I have worked on many cars over my lifetime ... but never have had a resource like this forum to ask questions ... just parts store manuals and occassionally a factory manual.

I went to the dealer today on the Throttle Body Recall, and they did a computer download and after that the car ran like a new car (well at least 98%) When i got home 27-30 miles through traffic i shut it off. When i recranked it less than 1/2 hour later to check something ... it was back doing the same loping idle 500-1100 rpm and almost stalling.

I have a feeling i have a bad throttle body ... they service guy said that would be covered if it was bad ... under the recall.

So i am also running a DTC code ... i don't think they have any connection but i know i have a lot to learn also.

The code on my ACTON scanner says it's a DTC P1238 but i don't know enough about that yet to do anything.

Lastly i would really like to find a service manual (better than the cheap ones) ... I saw on another thread about the VADIS download DVD ... would that answer most questions i would have on servicing this car?

Yes Vadis should be able to answer just about any question you have.
P1238 is a code for the turbo control valve.

Does the idling problem seem consistent with a Throttle Body problem?

Can anyone explain why when they did the download that it cleared up the idle for more than 30 miles. Then when i shut off the motor it came right back. (the battery was pretty fresh)

Any thoughts as to where i should start looking for the p1238 DTC problem?

 

Maybe the throttle body is bad. The software they install moves the computer parameters all the way to the max. So it might have seen it as being fine for a little while then not after the first drive. I would call and talk to them about it.

Check the vacuum lines for the code.
