Default 2000 S80 85K mileage, need to change timing belt&water pump?

I bought my 2000 S80 2.9 in 2008 at 50K mileage, it is 85K mileage right now. I'm a student, I don't drive a lot, and am running low on money.
People told me I need to change timing belt & water pump, my question is how necessary it is? If its very critical, then how much does it cost normally?
Thanks a lot, guys!!!

Jeffers, Don't worry, if everything is seems ok, no water pump issues, pulley etc then wait for another 15000 Miles. Because as per Volvo Recommendation timings belt has to be change at 103K Miles.

Well check to see if the belt is cracking. That isa 10 year belt and if it's never been changed my guess is that because it has been 14 years it is pretty worn and wee will need to be replaced.it is the most critical I team on the car and will destroy engines if it breaks.

ya its early to have it changed but as mentioned just make sure to inspect the belt for cracks. Also make sure the coolant is in good condition. check when was the last time coolant fluid was changed. That will keep the water pump happy.
Thats is some low miles on that old car. How did you get find that low mileage. you are lucky.
You have pictures to share of your S80?

Default Jeffers.... Am i lucky!!!

I have a 1999 S80 2.9 w/225,200 miles. Got a great deal for a really clean 99'.purchased from a private dealer. found out the timing belt kit( i.e water pump belt tensioner etc) was done at 103k per the sticker on top of valve cover. Timing belt was dry rot, and serpentine belt. Drove it for approx. 500 miles about the same time to gather the info, (also found out the engine is a interference engine (meaning if the belt or tensioner or pulley are to fail would bend valves or poke holes in pistons.....uhhGGG) took a weekend, to see what was needed (found out) the water pump had been changed before and was in good shape. Timing belt pulley/bearing was shot really rough and getting ready to fall apart. With that said, put everything back together and runs like a champ!! Onto the next item to fix up the car.

It looks fine, with some small wrinkles, but no major cracks.
