Default 2000 S80 T6 Surging/Acceleration Problems

I recently installed a new(er) transmission in my brother's 2000 S80 T6. To do so, I dropped the cradle that holds the engine/transmission assembly to the rest of the car. This involved disconnecting all electronic wiring and hoses, among a host of other small tasks.

The car is fully assembled now, with the new transmission installed, and ran perfectly for the first 30 miles or so. Now I am experiencing problems, the worst being that when starting to drive, with the gas pedalfully depressed, I getno acceleration for a few seconds...then all of the sudden, the car will jerk a little or sometimes, after warming up,will justblast forwardwith unbelievable power, burning rubber all the way to the top of 1st gear (6000rpm/around 35mph). Upon entering 2nd gear, however, the car will falter, jerk forward, then falter...and slowly inch up to highway speeds.

The car is now idling very low, and appears to be missing a cylinder (noted due to the engine shaking, less than smooth revving, and Emissions Control trouble codes popping up everywhere).

There is also an ABS code that has been around sincere-assemblyand a turbo control modulecode of some sort that emerged around the 30 mile mark in testing.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem/solution?

I think the ECM and maybe other electronic modules (electronic transmission module)need to be updatedif you haven't done so.

Man, this is totally unrelated...but:

the s80 pictured above in black with no hood and the turbo piping being shown off to the world makes it look 10 times more aggressive! Imagine if everything under there was polished or chrome plated....

Dang, I should detail my engine bay and take the hood off at car shows!

I thought the software upgrade had been taken care of when the car was purchased, but after a few calls, apparently I was mistaken. Is this something that Volvo will do for free due to the recall?

Yes and maybe. If you are talking about the ETM software upgrade then Volvo should pay for it. As for your other lights and problem, I doubted. However, because your car had not gotten an upgrade, you might want to just tell them you want a software upgrade. In doing so, they might reset the ECM and your troubles might go away. Or they can call you and tell you that you need an ECM re-calibrate for $78, which then is still cheap.

What I'm saying here is, use the opportunity that the dealer must work on your car for free, then they will let you know needed, instead of paying $200 for diagnostic.

Just got the car back from the dealership. They said that the software upgrade had already been done, but that there was a cracked coil which was causing a misfire problem. I had them fix it and $330 later, the car runs fine for the most part.

It is still hesitating and surging a little when I attempt to accelerate hard. Diagnostics said it was a Turbo Control Valve which I replaced ($65). It's less of a problem now, but it still is only giving me about 60% power on acceleration. Sometimes there will be a high pitched whine coming from the engine too. I think the problem is turbo related.

Again, sometimes after it warms up, it will burn rubber all over the place all the way up to 1st gear...but other times it will accelerate slowly, even though I have the pedal to the floor.

Any ideas??
