Has about 200 k miles, been whinning for a while and getting worse, can timing belt cause this? I hear Turbos can.

 

Whinning? Like a child, it likely needs something. Have no clue what you may be hearing or where it's coming from. Maybe you should record and post the noise.

Timing belt parts usually squeel.

 

My 2000 S80 T6 does the same thing, but ONLY when I rev the crap out of the engine. After a few miles, the sound goes away. I really don't know where the noise is originating, but if I had to guess, I would say it is the main bearings. With 165K on the clock, my T6 is running great and I have no plans to tear it down...I just take care not to race it too often.
