Default 2000 Volvo S80 2.9 Car Alarm faulty

Hello

My s80's alarm has been acting up, every time someone walks by my car the siren goes off for 30 seconds and then the lights continue to flash. Almost every time I get into my car the dash says alarm triggered check car. When I walk up to my car or when people park next to my car the alarm will go off so I think there is an issue with the alarms sensors?? Its so sensitive I try and park away from where anyone will walk or park. Is there anyway to reset the alarm or identify where the sensors are to check to see if they are faulty? Anyone know what the problem could be?? Help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

The alarm siren is probably bad. It's about $220 to have it replaced at the dealer.

+1

the car is almost 9 years old, so the batteriesinthe siren are probablygoing bad.
And..no..you can't replace the batteries in the siren. Just buy a new one.

Replace the battery that is what I did. Screw Volvo and their outraigeous price gouging! For $3.00 NICAD battery for a cordless phone works great 3.6 volt 660 milliamp hour. The battery even has a plug end on it like the cordless phones. Take a razor knife, cut along the glued part line open and replace. use silicone glue to put back together. Done, no more false alarms, this was the problem the dealer could not figure out since I bought the car brand new in 2000.

I have an S80 2000 and same thing is happening with alarm. Can I just disconnect it? Don't need an alarm and don't want to pay to replace it.

I guess I just look in owners manual and it will tell me where the battery is?

No you cannot just disconnect it. It is tied to the rear View mirror and sunroof.

The small battery is inside the siren you need to remove the siren and open it up.

Mitchell sais that the siren is located at the right front of the vehicle. I have looked but can't see it. Can you tell me it's exact location.

Thanks,
Bill

One more thing. I would like to say THANKS one more time for this website. I just replaced my timing belt and drive belt for the cost of the belts, about $80.00. I could not have done this without you guy's and Gal's!
Thanks

Yup, it sure is. But that's not what was in my siren module. It had a 2.4V NiMH battery in it. Maybe your module was different than mine, I dont know.

After further investigation, I think you may be right. I took the battery out of my old module and cut the insulation wrap off. Inside I found 3 disk cells (about 1" in diameter and 3/8" thick) connected in series. Each disk says 24240, N2H240, B35, and Made in Germany on it. When I did a search a while back, I found a list on the web for the N2H240 that said it was a 2.4V, 240 mAh NiMH battery. If that's true, then 3 connected in series would yield 7.2V.

So, I'm really not sure what the correct battery would be. Can anyone supply some more info on what Volvo uses in these siren modules? Mine says Made in Australia on end cap.

After still further investigation, I think that we were both wrong, and that a 7.2V NiMH battery is required for replacement. Here's why. I took the battery out of my old module and cut the insulation wrap off of it. Inside I found 3 battery disks that were hooked in series.

Each battery was marked N2N240. I looked that up on the web andI found these specs on the cells (apparently it's in Swedish, I'm not sure): Tekniske spesifikasjoner: Art.nr 180-4050, Benevnelse N2H240, Diameter 25.20 mm, Høyde 10.20 mm, Info NiMH-Cell, Kapasitet 240 mAh, Spenning 2.40 V; at: http://www.nordicbattery.no/no/products.php?pid=622

So they are 2.4V NiMHs and you will need a 7.2V replacement (since there are 3 hooked in series). There are some available here: http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/items.asp?db=8 for $13 and up, if you want to try replacing the battery yourself, or you can try Ebay. Just about everything offered these days is more that 240 mAh, but I don't think that would be problem: it should just give the siren more run time.

The part number on the back of my siren module is 8637399, which I think isa fairly common part used on a number of different car models.

Some of them have a break-off bolt in them so you might have to get a grinder or vice grips or something. you can put a bolt in its place though. Tech is right that if you disconnect it your sunroof and all that will cease to function.

Yeah, mine had the anti-tamper bolt in it. I drilled it out, but a dremel tool or angle grinder would have worked. And my sunroof doesn't work, so hopefully I'll get that back as soon as I get the new module installed.

Yea, unless something else is wrong then it will go back to working when you put it back in. Good luck with it!

Question Alarm Triggered, Transmission Service, Check Engine

Hey, thanks guys... New to this so not sure if it will post with your's. The alarm issue sounds dead on with what you all have described. For those of you not aware, my "Alarm Triggered" randomly goes off, not sensitive I don't think because it does it whether at home with nothing around or in a busy area, spontaneously. I notices when one of you described where the siren is that that's the problem. It had damage to the very front right area and either a wire is open or something has occured which is causing it to "red flag" the system. I will take a look at it, maybe find the problem and/or replace the battery in the siren as one of you have said. The siren makes no noise and my girlfriends got the exact same care in a 2002 edition and I thought it was the horn that honked, I think I'm wrong... will take a look and get back in a couple days.

As for the "Transmission Service" I think is a result of the P07017 code that has "red flagged" the system.

The Engine codes are:
P0717 Input/Turbine speed sensor A Circuit no signal
P1618 Manufactuer Control
P0442 EVAP Emission control system leak (small)

I've read up on alot of these on other forums so I will see where to go from here, ANY experience with these or help/quidance would be great!
