Default 2002 S80 T6 oil pan mess

I have a 2002 S80 T6 with 147K miles on the that I've had for over a year now. A few months back it began leaking oil from the camshaft seals and I had seen on this and other forums that the culprit behind this is often a clogged PCV breather unit. I tore into the PCV system and lo and behold the breather was packed solid with something resembling cake batter. I got the entire vacuum system all sparkly clean, but decided to take the oil pan off as well because it undoubtedly had some issues and might as well change the o-rings.

I know that removing the oil pan from these motors is no small feat because Volvo seems to think do-it-yourselfers don't exist, but I've hit a whole new set of problems that I haven't been able to find a solution to.

My main question is; is there any way to attach the 2.9L to an engine hoist to allow for removal of the subframe? I've tried detaching the motor and lifting it slightly to wiggle the pan out, but that's a no-go for me. No matter how I lift or support the motor I can't get enough clearance to pull the pan out (possibly a small wreck in it's past that shifted something) and there aren't many options for supporting the engine that don't involve the oil pan area.

The Volvo instructions for pulling the engine call for dropping it through the bottom of the car and don't mention using a hoist. I need to use a hoist so that I can remove the subframe completely and drop the pan off.

Any and all ideas will be tried at this point because I just want my baby back on the road I miss driving her!

the whole motor can be supported by the eyelet that is solid built into the engines topside. located next the the belt area. We used a come along and pulled the motor up from the garage trusses. You do have to drop the entire subframe....4 to 6 bolts if I recall. We had to detach the control arms for best clearance. Was quite a job but very rewarding to accomplish.
