Default 2004 Volvo S80 2.9L will not accelerate pass 20/40MPH

Hello all,
I am relatively new to car forums and pretty much know nothing about cars. Anyways, I have here my S80 that will not accelerate past 40MPH or 20MPH, even if I rev the car up to about 3000 or 4000 RPM. It has about 250k miles on it and the check engine lights are on. I have no idea what’s wrong, but sometimes the car wouldn’t accelerate at all after I come to a complete stop (added on with the limitation of being stuck on 20/40MPH). Usually I’d fix this by restarting the car, but this morning the car will not accelerate even after I had restarted it.
I assume that this is a transmission problem.

Any help will do, and feel free to ask any questions. I am a complete newbie, and will try to answer questions to the best of my ability.

The 2.9 engine uses a GM transmission known for failure - If the engine rpms are rising and the car is not going any faster - as long as the transmission fluid is full - your transmission is slipping. For an example in my 2004 xc90 t6 with the turbo 6 and GM transmission - the first transmission lasted 22000 miles before it began slipping.
