Default 2008 S80 T6 firing order

Hi There, I am new here, and just bought my first Volvo. It’s a 2008 S80 T6. I got a deal on it as it’s misfiring. Reader says its cylinder 5. But I want to verify which one that is. A Google search has turned up nothing but earlier years. I searched this forum but couldn’t find it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

cylinders are numbered 1 - 6 where number 1 is closest to the timing belt cover. The first thing to do is to count from the nose of the engine, then swap the coil from #4 with the coil from #5 to see if the mis-fire moves to #4 (ie a P0304 vs a P0305 ). You can also pull/inspect the plug when the coil is off. I'd also inspect the wiring harness as well to see if there's any cracks in the connectors or corrosion on the pins to the coils.

Thank you for replying. But it’s my understanding that my T6 has a timing chain, not belt. And it sits 180 degrees from the 5 cylinder engines. My pulleys are on the drivers side, not passenger side. And i have read that the firing order may not be sequential. There seems to be a lot of confusion among the engines.

There seems to be some confusion. When a code appears that identifies for instance "cylinder 5 misfire" - that refers to cylinder #5 - counting from the front of the engine in 123456 sequence.

A couple of posters have asked the same question as in "what's the firing order". The answer to that is probably 153624. I think perhaps some might think the #5 code above refers to the 5th cylinder in the firing order (#2) - it does not - once again it simply refers to the 5th cylinder in the engine.

That makes sense. Thanks much for clearing that up!

and yes, the I6s have a timing chain vs a belt. Point was to find the front of the engine and count from there to find cylinder 5 so you can swap coils as your first step in diagnosing a misfire. Firing order is not a concern.
