Hey guys, I'm new to the forum as well as Volvos so please forgive my ignorance. I have a 2008 Volvo s80 and am tired of using the aux cord to play audio from my phone. I understand there's no way to install an aftermarket stereo in there's things, but is it possible to upgrade to a newer model s80 stereo with Bluetooth capabilities? Anyone every heard of or have experience with anything like this?

 

There’s no OEM upgrade because newer models are integrated with the Sensus infotainment system. There was an OEM Bluetooth module you can add, but it is more trouble and cost than it is worth.

Your best option is to get a Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth adapter. This device has worked well on my S80 for many years. Both music and phone calls sound excellent with an iPhone. There may be similar brands of Bluetooth adapters, but this one has been confirmed to work by many Volvo owners on Swedespeed for 2007-2013 models.

One end plugs into the 12 volt aux outlet on the back of the center console. The 3.5mm plug connects inside the armrest. Run the cord under the left edge of the console and affix the button to the center stack. It seems almost designed for our S80s. Don’t buy the newer model that had flaws. If you get static, you will also need a cheap inline RF filter, but only some owners have reported this. I did not need one.
