After you take the gas tank out - you can get to it. Why do you "need" to replace the fuel pump?
There's a lot of stuff that makes that fuel pump run - fuse 22 and relay k8 on the CEM, a fuel pump control unit (PEM) 4/83 in the diagram and the fuel pump is 6/33. The fuel pump only runs at the speed needed - the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail is the signal for that. Rarely do fuel pressure sensors cause the car to die - but it's possible. A good scan tool or VIDA would be the best first step in your diagnosis.
