Default 2011 S80 Keyless battery problems

Greetings Volvo Lovers.
I received two remotes and keys for a 2011 keyless Volvo. Both sets were low on batteries, following by change battery prompt. I purchased 4 batteres required - 2430 and replaced a set. I left one old set at home, and struggled, but finally replaced the two batteries with the printed battery type facing down.

When I attempted to start the engine, a prompt indicated that the vehicle could not recognize any key. I then inserted the remote into the remote holder next to the on/off engine button.
The car started, and I drove away. In hindsight, I ought to have practiced this at home,
When I parked the car at a local park and exited, I was unable to lock the doors. Now I'm home writing to anyone who understands the *$&# keyless remotes Thank you.

Make sure the “+” positive side is face down. You must slide the battery into the metal clip at a slight angle so it locks into place. Don’t use a generic battery brand. I prefer Swiss-made Renata lithiums after short life from other brands, but Energizer or Duracell lithiums should work. Also check two fuses in the glove compartment. Fusebox A: #12 keyless drive and Fusebox B: #14 remote key receiver. Read the owner’s manual for more about keyless drive and keyless entry if you haven’t already.

Default Keyless Problems 2011 S80

Thank you BlindKarma

While waiting for an answer, I did see that the batteries were not placed + - correctly.
Also with regard to opening the case, the manual indicates inserting screwdriver next to spring-load after key is removed. As I struggled, I thought that I would crack the case; others online say to do this.

Finally, one post shows that after removing the key, place the screwdriver in this spot where the key sits, not next to the spring- load and pry. Whoa! It worked beautifully. What frustrates me is that the dealer who uses this same keyless fob for his vehicle was unable to show me how to perform this task. He said his mechanic did this for him. I wouldn't mind so much had he not given me two remotes which immediately required replacement which leads to another question on the Keyless FOB:

I receive contradictory answers on low battery/replace battery prompt. Dealer claims that the prompt shows up much sooner than necessary for battery replacement. Is this correct? Thanks again.

Things will malfunction as soon as the low battery message appears. Usually, some things already don’t work right before the low battery message. You might pull on the handle but the door doesn’t unlock the first time, or try to lock the car from a reasonable distance but nothing happens the first time pressing the fob.

Thank you. Another question. Should I be using 3 batteries in the FOB? 2 are working. Are there additional features the 3rd battery will prompt?

I only have the two-battery fobs. Never knew of a 3 battery version.
