A recall and a service bulletin are two very different things. There are no recalls for the transmission.

 

Of course, my mistake. I meant recall or service bulletins. Since I posted that question I had my email responded to from Volvo of OC in SoCal. Apparently there are a couple of service bulletins with the code "RTJ 29078" but no recalls. Not sure what they are about but I was quoted $650. I was told to have this done first and if it doesn't help the hard shifting then on to the 2nd RTJ which would call for dropping the tranny. I contacted my local Volvo dealer because of this report I found online ...... "Volvo has announced the automaker is recalling certain 2011-2013 S80 models over faulty transmission software. The campaign covers a total of 1,469 vehicles, which may have a software error that could prevent the transmission from downshifting from fifth to fourth gear when it should. If that happens, the engine could stall, thereby increasing the chances of an accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Volvo will upgrade the transmission control module free of charge".
