Default 2nd Power Surges every 4-500 rpm

Hi All: Anyone experienced this or know how or what to have dealer do to fix? 2002 S80 T-6 21k miles. Under medium to high accelartion in 2nd gear the power surges (hesitates?) from about 2500 to 5000 rpms then pulls strong...1st and 3rd gears strong all through rev range. Why only second gear and what gives? Average fuel economy is 21.7 combined, seems to have gotten worse with time, when new there was the 'known' power curve hiccup about 3200, now it's like every 500 rpm almost all through 2nd gear.

Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated :-)). Thanks to all in advance.[&:]

Make sure you drive with either the Shopforeman or the Service Manager. There might be a fault in the Valve body in the transmission.
